Your rig is a thing of Beauty... - Newtek.

rhr-1

RHR is a complete series of character rigging tutorials for Newtek LightWave 3D 9.6 and IO, which take you through EVERY aspect of rigging from start to finish.

Suitable for both newcomers and more experienced users, these tutorials fully explain all the basics of how rigging in LightWave works, and the tools available. It is also the ONLY training series currently available to cover all of the new additions and changes made in LW9.6+.

These tools and workflows are tested and examined as you are guided through the production of 2 character rigs, one a cartoon mesh, the other, a more realistic human. Throughout, different methods of setting up similar control systems are shown, as well as how to mix and match different approaches and tools, from everything done natively with plain LightWave, to other options including various free plugins.

More than just another walkthrough, these tutorials will show you how to think like a rigger, and how to turn to different tools and workflows to solve different problems in different situations.

With over 18 HOURS of content, covering theory, advanced control rigging, skinning, and facial setups, this training series is unlike any other seen before for Lightwave.

Ever.

“RebelHill has created the most impressive rigs I’ve seen come out of  LightWave and he has spawned a rigging renaissance within the LightWave  community. This is the most in-depth training material that covers rigging in LightWave.”    Read full

Specifics?

This first section of the training covers all the need to know basics from the ground up... Lightwave space, rotation order, and the co-ordinate system are all fully explained. We then cover all the tools used in the rigging... Constraints, such as Follower, and Same as Item are explained, as are expressions. In addition we dissect and cover all aspects of Lightwave’s IK system, as well as PLG-IK, seeing how we can match, switch, and blend between different controls, and also cover the inside story of bones and deformers, with a full walkthrough of both Zbones and Joints systems.

The second section of the training walks you through the complete control system creation for two different characters, each using different options, and approaches to achieve similar controls. Highlights include IK/FK switching for all limbs, IK limb repinning, with space switching, switchable squash and stretch systems, IK for spines, multiple levels of targeting, IK/FK Auto-Match, Auto-Walk features, and much, much more.

We move on to skin and manage deformations for both our characters, first, paying attention to quick fixes and methods for getting simpler, clean deforms with cartoon characters. We then dive into more detailed skinning, and methods for deforming realistic human characters, or creatures. We deal fully with deformations at areas such as hips, and shoulders, showing how to get clean, and realistic shaping. Finally we also examine the use of displacements on characters for skinning detailed creatures.

The final section details facial setup from start to finish. From a basic facial rig created from a few joints and just a couple of morfs, to a much more advanced joystick style interface giving us masses of flexibility and posability in our face, to finally using joints to perform like tracked secondary controllers.
